CHIROPRACTIC APPROACH AND STYLE
Harmony and balance are crucial elements of homeostasis, that neutral zone the body naturally seeks for wellness. Each person’s homeostasis is unique, as is my tailored care of each person.
Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT) is the basis of my care. I use blocks to easily reposition the pelvis and spine, unlocking the system and allowing the free flow of cerebrospinal fluid to bathe the spine and brain. The activator is a small tool that applies a direct, pinpointed force to the area in need of adjusting, in a process many people laughingly refer to as “being stapled.”

Cranial Adjustments

One of my primary specialties is cranial adjustment. Most people are surprised to hear that the bones of the head can be adjusted, because we have observed old, non-living bones, which are unmoving. The respiratory/cranial pumping system nourishes the brain by moving the cerebral spinal fluid around and through it. It is in synchronization with this motion that the cranial adjustments are performed. Many people come for cranial adjustments to reduce the occurrence of headaches.

Muscle Treatments

Muscle relaxation is encouraged through electrical stimulation, and a Cold Laser machine is used to decrease inflammation and aid in the healing process.
Qi Gong applications are painless and aid in the process of re-balancing the body, as well as helping the body to maintain the adjustment.

PEDIATRICS
Children are wonderful. Their bodies are much more adept at incorporating chiropractic and cranial adjustments and rebalancing with ease.
The office is filled with stuffed toys and special books to allow children to feel comfortable and safe, and every effort is made to allow your child to relax during the process. Each step is explained in advance to both parent and child.
A parent must be present during examination and treatment.
Scoliosis Screening
Postural analysis can determine if your child is able to stand with ease.
Scoliosis screening shows whether or not bone growth is normal or if there are extreme curvatures that may require medical referrals.
Spinal Examination
Orthopedic measurements check for any joint or bone restrictions.
Neurological evaluation reveals any variations or constrictions of the nervous system. Range of motion studies evaluate all areas of the spine and extremities.
How do I know if my child needs chiropractic treatment?
During the normal birth process, the head naturally twists as the child emerges from the birth canal. The upper neck bones can usually return to a normal placement, but if not, the parent might notice that the child’s head is “always tilted,” or maybe the child cannot turn her head to the right or left easily. Then a simple adjustment to the upper neck bones can allow all the bones to move easily, and all the nerves that go to the brain and body to function properly.

How Chiropractic Works
Chiropractic is a natural form of healing with roots dating back to the original Olympic games. A chiropractor focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and correction of spinal vertebral subluxations. The originators of chiropractic believed that “innate” energy — the energy that makes the body a living, breathing person — flows through the nervous system. For that reason, the natural process of aiding the body to rebalance itself after the causative “problem” has been removed argues for chiropractic first, drugs second, and surgery last.

DETOXIFICATION
Cleansing the body is a healing procedure that has been handed down for centuries from the ancient cultures of India, Africa and Europe. The exact program is specialized for each individual and based upon what is needed to return the person to good health.
Reducing the amount and types of food eaten frees up the energy used for digestion and devotes it to detoxification and healing. A rice- or whey-based shake is used in place of one or two meals a day for the detox period, which averages 9-21 days. A regimen of herbs, nutritional supplements and homeopathic remedies are used to assist the body in releasing toxins from the organs and brain.

Testimonials
Dr. Swanson’s comprehensive treatments, which included cranial adjustments, really made me feel better than I had since my diagnosis of Fibromyalgia. An added benefit was that it helped all my other therapies stay with me for a longer period of time, or enhanced them in some way.

I have documented improvements in balance, focus and sensory processing skills of several children referred to Dr. Swanson through the Learning Gym. I personally have experienced improved visual skills after a treatment that included cranial adjustments.

Dr. Swanson is an important member of my daughter’s team of practitioners, all of who are working toward the long-term goal of overall healing. The gentle adjustments she performs to correct my daughter’s alignment provide immediate relief to her discomfort. The cranial adjustments, I believe are a critical element. We have seen increased excretion of toxins and metals following a treatment that included a cranial re-alignment.
